Image WONDJINA
In Australian mythology, the Wondjina were thought to be the first inhabitants to arrive on the continent and lay the path for civilization. The Wondjina are preserved, it is thought, in the petroglyphs found on exposed rock. A red band circles the heads of the painted figures, resembling a helmet or halo. Myth tells that 10,000 years ago the Wondjina peoples left Australia to return to their home in the sky and can be seen at night as lights moving across the sky.
