Hanna-Barbera introduced the cartoon Scooby Doo, Where Are You? in 1969. The series ran on the CBS network Saturday mornings and featured Scooby, a Great Dane dog, and his gang of curious friends. In each episode, the kids stumbled upon a mystery involving scary creatures. After investigating and collecting clues, the gang would conclude the haunting was a hoax and capture the bad guys. The characters continued in several series after the original. In general, the logical explanations and the theme that there were really no such things as ghosts and monsters continued throughout. However, with the recent popularity of the classic show, new Scooby Doo "movies" were made. This modern version abandoned the skeptical view of the original cartoons since the monsters encountered by the gang are now revealed as genuine and not just some guy in a mask. A live-action Scooby Doo movie is planned for theatres in 2002.
